Order the Spectrum
Put the electromagnetic waves in order from longest wavelength (low energy) to shortest wavelength (high energy).
Arrange the waves
Start with the waves that stretch the farthest (Radio Waves) and end with the shortest, most energetic ones (Gamma Rays).
Reading
The electromagnetic spectrum goes from long, low-energy waves to short, high-energy waves. Radio Waves and Microwaves have the longest wavelengths and are great for communication. Infrared Waves carry heat, and Visible Light is the narrow band we can see. Beyond that, Ultraviolet (UV) from the sun can cause sunburn. X-rays and Gamma Rays are the shortest waves; they carry the most energy and can pass through many materials.
Tip: Longer wavelength = lower energy. Shorter wavelength = higher energy.
